Artful Dimensional Blending

Hello everyone - and Happy Thanksgiving Week to those in the States!  I just wanted to drop in and show you one of my recent faves - an awesome blended cluster technique.  What exactly do I mean by "blended cluster" technique you ask.  Because the two techniques sound like exact opposites, don't they?  Well, they basically are opposites, but when you combine the two of them together you create an amazing impact on your page.  Take a look at this page:

http://www.scrapbookgraphics.com/photopost/word-play/p182978-birdsong.html

I combined graphic blended word art by Viva Artistry with a cluster of flowers for her hair and more clustered elements on the edges of the page that add depth to the overall design, and draw your attention to the focal point.  If you are interested in learning more about this technique, you should check out my Scrapaneers post, Blending + 3D = FABulous. (Just click on the page for full kit credits.)

Is everyone ready for Black Friday madness?  Whether you are shopping in the stores, or browsing all the great digital art deals online (and let me tell you there are lots of digital goodies coming your way), I hope you have a great time!  And, of course, more importantly - have a great Thanksgiving. :)

Until next time -

Scattered Word Art Freebie

Hey everyone!  Just sneaking in before football starts today to give you the preview and a link to my September Word Art Freebie at Scrap Orchard.  I went a little crazy this month and made some full page size word art for your creative pleasure. :)

Here is a look at the preview (I couldn't include all the pieces in the preview and do them justice, so you'll just see one of them, but the other phrases are listed in the description):

And here is my inspiration page:

(Credits: Roots & Leaves and Friends are Flowers by Lyndsay Riches; Recyclables 24 by Scrapping with Liz.)

I designed this word art primarily as a background grunge element, but you can also clip it to a smaller area of a layered background.  You should definitely play around with the blending and opacity modes and/or add some color to it by using a solid color adjustment layer or clipping paper to it.  You can grab the word art HERE.  Be quick though, it's only available until September 30!

Until next time ~ Judie

You can find the full credits for the layout in my Sweet Shoppe Gallery.

In the tutorial, I show how I made the artsy alpha mask for the blended photo.

Raptor Art

How can it be the end of June already!?!  This month has flown by so fast . . . but at least I was able to make some time for a few artful adventures.  I just got back from an Inspired weekend at Donna Downey's Studio where I created an amazing mixed media art journal with DJ Pettitt.  Before driving back home on Sunday a group of us visited the Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville, NC.  It was such an amazing place.  They take in injured raptor birds and rehabilitate them.  Those that are able to live on their own again are released back into the wild, and those that aren't are given a safe, loving home to live out their days.  Because of an incoming storm, the flight show was canceled, but we managed to be standing in the right place at the right time and caught close up photo shoots of several owls and an eagle.

I created this page for a recent post on Mari Koegelenberg's Blog about artful solutions for blurry photos:

(I used background papers from Mari's All the Pretty Horses and her All Stitched Up Alpha.)

Here are some of the other photos I was able to take:

I can't wait to go back in the fall and spend more time there!

Until next time ~ Judie
